Made for nogood reason.
Things we filmed, just because. Fun, team building, practice or a straight test of whether the idea would work. Some did. Some are questionable. The video was rarely the interesting part. The story of how it came together usually was.
A finished video tells you nothing about the decision behind it. These are here for the decisions, what we were testing, and whether it came off.
I Found You
A short horror story, shot in 4K.
Watch on YouTube ↗If I'm babysitting, the kids had better be ready for something different. I enrolled them in an on-the-fly production, and we made it up as we went. I left them with not just the film, but the memories of making it.
Kabeer
A trailer for a film that was never made.
Watch on YouTube ↗A family member was over from abroad, an actor by trade, and that was too good to waste. The camera came everywhere we went, and every spare hour became a shoot. There was no plan. The result had people asking where they could watch the rest.
Project Nerf
An office Nerf war, cut as a trailer.
Watch on YouTube ↗An annual company event: teams across the business compete with a short film on a set topic, and it ends with a day out at a private cinema watching them on a proper screen. I don't do these by halves. Once I'd committed, most of the office was in it.
The Inbetweeners remake
A remake of the show's trailer.
Watch on YouTube ↗Another entry for the same company event. This one pushed the boundaries and is a little NSFW. The Inbetweeners was the show everyone was watching at the time, so we made it as a homage to the original.
Stab
A short horror piece.
Watch on YouTube ↗That year my time was split. A group of new starters all wanted in on the company event, so I obliged with a second entry, done on the fly. There was no plan, or rather, the only plan was getting everyone into character.
Zombieland London
A zombie short shot around London.
Watch on YouTube ↗I'd just watched Zombieland, and that year's topic for the company event happened to be horror. The homage wrote itself.
Underworld Ki Blacklist
A full-length short, subtitled in English.
Watch on YouTube ↗A trip to Pakistan, camera in hand. I spent most of it in a room with four or five lads doing very little, until the camera came out and gave them a purpose. Everyone committed, and everyone still remembers it. There was no plan: we shot when we could, filled the gaps later, and somehow came out with something that held together as a story.
The reasons vary: fun, team building, practice, or just seeing whether an idea held up. The video was usually the excuse.
